The upper line of the machine -readable entry of the passport of the Russian Federation contains coded information about the type of document, the country of issuing and personal data of the owner. The second part of the line includes the surname, name and patronymic, transformed by a special transliteration algorithm "Modernized Clair".

Rules for formatting a name in the upper line of MCHZ

  1. Surname and name are divided by two symbols "<<"
  2. Name and patronymic are separated by one symbol "<"
  3. The components of double surnames are divided by one symbol "<"
  4. Castles in surnames are replaced by a symbol "<"
  5. If the name occupies less than 39 characters, the remaining positions are filled out "<"

Algorithm for reducing long name

When the limit exceeds 39 characters, the following reduction rules are applied:

  1. If the surname and name is ≤ 37 characters:The name and first name are made completely, the middle name is reduced to the letter, which becomes the 44th sign
  2. If the surname and name is ≥ 38 characters:A full surname is made, the name is reduced to the letter in the 42nd position, after the signal sign, the first letter of the patronymic is introduced
  3. Если фамилия >34 characters:The surname is reduced to the letter in the 39th position, after two filler signs the first letters of the name and patronymic are entered
